Fiona Hale is a 12-year-old girl from San Antonio who is a very talented artist. She also happens to have autism. And now, her artwork is going to be featured in a book about her life.
“She’s the kid at school who draws,” her mother Colleen says. “She’s not the kid with autism.”
Fiona practices her artwork an astonishing four hours a day. Her drawings also serve as a way to help her communicate. The book, called “You Are Going To Love Me”, was created with the purpose of helping Fiona’s teachers and classmates understand autism.
Fiona’s special education teacher, Victoria Sills, wrote the book, while Fiona provided the artwork, and her mother supplied the photographs. Together, they’ve created a masterpiece that has already touched many lives.
Should every child have a book like this to show to their peers? We think the world might be a much better place if we could read about one another’s lives before we made judgements about each other. If you have the time and talent to help your child make a book like Fiona’s, please share it with us in the comments!
