Kimberly-Clark Corp. is voluntarily recalling their U by Kotex® Sleek® Tampons, Regular Absorbency after reports of the product coming apart and leaving pieces behind inside women’s bodies. No other U by Kotex® products are affected by this recall.
Kimberly-Clark Corp. announced on December 11, 2018, that they would be recalling specific lots of their tampons for a “quality-related defect that could impact the performance of this product.” The recall comes after the company received various reports of their tampons unraveling or coming apart during the process of removal from the vagina.
Pieces left behind have in some cases caused “infection, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms.” Some users have even said they had to seek medical attention after removing the tampons to dislodge pieces that were left stuck inside them.
The tampons were manufactured between Oct. 7, 2016, and Oct. 16, 2018, and distributed in the United States and Canada between Oct. 17, 2016, and Oct. 23, 2018. The affected tampons were sold in 18-count packs, 34-count packs, 34-count multipacks containing 17 affected tampons, and 3-count packs. You can check your lot number (found on the bottom of the box) here to find out if your box of tampons is affected by the recall or refer to the full list.
