“You can try to think of what autism is, but it’s almost impossible to put it down in words,” says 13-year-old Rosie. Rosie has been living with Asperger’s Syndrome and has tried to describe what it’s like but can only tell us that seeing through the eyes of an autistic child is the best way to understand what she goes through each day.
Rosie diagnosed herself with Asperger’s after her younger brother was diagnosed with autism. She says she read a book about autism to try to understand him better and realized that several of the symptoms described her life nearly as much as they described his. Her mother took her to a doctor, where Rosie’s suspicions were confirmed.
Watch how Rosie’s family lives with her Asperger’s Syndrome along with her younger sister’s Kabuki Syndrome and younger brother’s classic autism. Life may be difficult at times, but this family stays strong for each other. They give families who live with a child with autism a better understanding of autism and the knowledge that life can still go on despite the surprises this condition can bring.
