This Sweet Nonverbal Boy Has A Great Time “Feeding The Puppy” — While Getting Positive Reinforcement That Interacting Can Be Fun!

Matthew is an adorable, nonverbal boy on the spectrum. Here, he works with his teacher, Deanne on interacting with others.

Deanne uses an activity, called “feeding the puppy,” to engage Matthew, and she pairs the fun interaction with the repetition of a certain word. When Matthew attempts to vocalize, she immediately reinforces the good work by letting him feed the puppy and then tickling him. The purpose of this is to teach him that talking is valuable…and fun!

Watch Matthew interact with his teacher and toy in this video! It’s so sweet; just try not to smile. We bet you won’t be able to!

The ability to speak is something that many people tend to take for granted, but it can be a struggle for an individual on the autism spectrum. You can help, though. By donating just $15, you can give a child with autism a session of speech therapy.
