Student With Autism Named Valedictorian, Earns Highest GPA In School’s History

Not only has 2021 Arkansas High School graduate Nicholas Watson earned the title of Valedictorian, but he has also obtained the highest grade point average in the school’s history with an incredible 4.8.

Due to Watson’s hard work, he received more than $1.5 million in scholarships and was accepted to 45 colleges.

Watson is extremely grateful to have such an amazing opportunity, and says he was never meant to make it this far.

“Besides autism and ADHD, they said I wasn’t ever going to comprehend, read, math all of that,” Watson told ArkLaTex. “No matter what circumstance or whoever defines you, you’re the one who defines yourself.”

Watson always worked hard and never listened to those who doubted him. Not only did he grow up to read and be great at math, but he also competed in track, cross-country, soccer and basketball.

Watson overcame every single obstacle that was thrown his way with ease.

Watson accepted his scholarship to Harding University, in Searcy, Arkansas, where he now plays basketball and is majoring in Electrical Engineering. He will also mentor and coach youth basketball.

He did so well in high school and passed all of his advanced courses, that he earned 64 college credits to start him off.

Watson hopes to make electronic devices and eventually work at big places in the future like Google and Tesla.

“No matter what limitations or restrictions that you have been given, conditions or anything that tries to hinder you just try to overachieve that and go to a goal that you want to achieve,” Watson told ArkLaTex.
