A mathematical genius and savant with Asperger’s Syndrome, Daniel Tammet gives us a little insight to his fascinating brain on the David Letterman show.

He has synesthesia (the mixing of senses) and sees numbers as beautiful shapes. He has recited thousands of digits of the irrational number pi (it took him five hours to recite it all!).

Not only that, but he has also trained himself to cope with social situations and is able to tell you the exact day someone was born at a drop of a hat!

Only about 10 percent of the autism population is considered to have savant abilities, so Daniel’s situation is not a common one at all.

However, many people on the autism spectrum still possess unique talents and gifts, and they all deserve to be celebrated. All people on the spectrum rock!
