It’s time for a new Smarty activity for our amazing kids with autism! This month we’ll get a some tips on making gluten-free playdough. This recipe is great as it’s safe for kids with gluten allergies and is cheap and cost effective!
Watch as Suzanne shows us how to make playdough with ingredients and tools right out of your kitchen! Using art as a way to bond with your child on the spectrum will teach them how to practice skills they have been working on in therapy. We’re all in this together!
Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- 1 c. white rice flour
- 1/2 c. corn starch
- 1/2 c. salt
- 1 tbsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. vegetable oil
- 1 c. water
- food coloring (if desired)
First, you’ll want to combine all the dry ingredients in a sauce pan. Next, you’ll add the oil and water. After that, put the pan on the stove and, under low heat, continuously stir the mixture until it looks like this.
After that, let the dough cool and, if you want to, feel free to add some food coloring. Then voila! You’re done! Now it’s time for some fun!
