Boy With Down Syndrome Hugs And Comforts An Autistic Classmate In Viral Video
A little boy with Down syndrome comforted his autistic classmate when he was upset, and the viral video is touching hearts all over the world.
The two boys — who are unidentified as of this writing — attend a school in Mexico. Their teacher recorded the sweet moment between them.
First, the little boy with Down Syndrome gently wipes his hand down the autistic boy’s nose, in an apparent efforts to wipe away his tears. Then he loops his arms around him and gives him a hug, curving his hand up to his neck and pulling him close.
He snuggles his face into the autistic boy’s neck and then hugs him for a few more moments before patting his shoulder and releasing him.
Then he lifts each of his friend’s arms and raises them high, crosses them, then lowers them. He continues to move his arms around, perhaps to be silly or maybe just to get his friend moving to shake him out of his sadness.
Then he gently places the boy’s arms back in his lap.
He wipes his friend’s face again and walks away.
The video is barely over a minute long, and has been watched millions upon millions of times since it was first posted. It was first shared by Jalisco Oculto, a Facebook page that’s in Spanish. Oculto means “hidden” and Jalisco is a western Mexican state that borders the Pacific Ocean.
It has resonated with millions of people, and it’s easy to see why. It makes us feel better about the state of the world to see a young child be so sensitive to another child’s emotions and try to help him through it. The little boy is gentle and empathetic with his friend, and his simple actions serve as a powerful reminder that a little love can go a long way. The fact that both the little boys have special needs makes it all the more touching.
