This Family’s Story Is a Must-Watch for Anyone Who Is Upset Over Their Child’s Diagnosis
Daniel Crush was diagnosed with autism at the age of three when he lost his skills, such as the ability to speak. Since then, his whole family has been on a journey, striving to give him the best possible treatment and life they possibly could.
Now at age 19, this fantastic young man is receiving treatment through The Kelly O’Leary Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Cincinnati Children’s. He is happy and he is a blessing in the lives of his whole family.
But it wasn’t always easy. At first, his parents were scared, and his mom wished that God would take away all the struggles her son would face and place them on her own shoulders. “But I think that’s the thing we learned,” she said. “It’s not easy. Life isn’t supposed to be easy.”
Listen to his family tell the story of Daniel’s journey through life…and be sure to listen through to the end, because his mom has something incredibly beautiful and insightful to say about the fact that expecting parents will so often think “I don’t care if it’s a boy or girl, as long as it’s healthy.”
(Note: at one point, Daniel’s sister says that Daniel is a perpetual kid, which is a view that we at The Autism Site do not support. In fact, we believe this type of infantilization is very dangerous; you can learn more about that through our article on the subject matter. In spite of this cringe-worthy statement, however, we still think that the overall message of the video is good.)
