Keira Meikus is a 9-year-old from Homewood, Alabama. In the spring of 2016, she won the hearts of millions over the Internet when she delivered a candid and beautiful message about autism to her fellow students in her school’s morning address.
Keira, who studies in the fourth grade at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School, was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum when she was four years old, and she learned of her diagnosis a year ago.
However, that does not stop her.
She calls autism her “superpower” and spoke out to 450 fellow students about her experiences.
“I can’t speak for everyone who has autism, but I’m sure most want what every typical person wants — to be accepted and to belong,” she said in her address for Autism Awareness Month. (I can’t help but agree with her!)
