“Cozy Cardio” Takes Over the Internet: Here’s Why You May Want to Try It

As fall wears on into winter, millions of people are hunkering down with their warm autumn-scented candles, holiday baked goods, and fuzzy blankets. It’s the perfect time of year to embrace comfort and relaxation and laziness.

Wait, maybe not laziness.

A new craze recently took TikTok by storm and is now spreading to people all over the internet, and it’s the perfect blend of comfort, self-care, and productivity. It’s called cozy cardio, and it involves exercising in a soothing and pleasurable environment.

How does one participate in cozy cardio? Everyone has their own favorite way to do it, but we’d suggest starting with a warm and dimly lit room, candles, comfy clothes, and some calming music.

Those who really want to get into the spirit of the activity might utilize some additional tools to create the perfect environment – twinkle lights, a warm blanket or rug underfoot, a fire in the fireplace, a pair of flannel workout pajamas, some slippers, a mug of tea, an essential oil diffuser, etcetera. Bringing your pet along for a calming presence and post-workout snuggles might not be a bad idea either.

The only “cozy” thing we don’t really recommend is indulging in comfort foods. Not only is it difficult to eat a casserole or a piece of cake while working out, but it also sort of defeats the purpose of the routine. But with any luck, your other chosen comfort items will satisfy you and distract you from any urge you may have had to snack.

Once you’ve got the mood set, you might choose to follow a pre-set workout routine, move your body in whatever way feels best in the moment, or watch a workout video. You could even use a treadmill or stationary bike while you watch your favorite television show or guilty pleasure movie.

Cozy cardio is an attractive new take on exercise because it brings a sense of luxury and indulgence to the practice. If you feel like you don’t have time to squeeze in a workout, you might have better luck killing two birds with one stone by taking on this exercise routine that doubles as your alone time and self-care regimen.

This activity is perfect for people who hate going to the gym but typically don’t possess the motivating force required to maintain an at-home workout routine. It’s also perfect for staying in shape in the wintertime if you live in a colder climate. Of course, it can’t totally replace more intense workouts and time spent outdoors, but it’s an accessible way to get started and stay on track.

Now you can look forward to working out in sweet cozy solitude instead of needing to have a buddy to keep you accountable on the tough days. Of course, buddies are welcome nonetheless.

Many internet users tout cozy cardio as a kinder way to get yourself into the routine of working out. It’s gentler not only on your body but also on your mind. Would you try cozy cardio?
