Often, it is difficult for neurotypical people to see a person with autism as they truly are. It can be hard to look beyond the diagnosis, especially if you don’t know the person very well.
It’s so important for us to be able to see past the autism and find the beautiful person underneath. We hope this video of Abigail LaCount, narrated by her mother and siblings, will show you the real person in Abigail.
Abigail is a 9-year-old girl with nonverbal autism who is just now starting to learn simple words like numbers and body parts. But her joy and zest for life are so evident on her face! She loves to cuddle, and swimming is her absolute favorite activity.
“Sometimes I think it’s kind of cool,” her mother says, “that she’s happy in her own little world.”
Watch the video below to learn about this family’s inspiring, challenging, and sometimes frustrating journey with autism. Once you meet Abigail and learn about her life, it will be hard to look at people with special needs in the same way again.
